Casa Grande, Winter Chain 2010
Casa Grande, AZ;By Mark Constantine
02/02-07/2010 An early morning rain Sunday briefly dampened the parched Sonoran desert and the mountains which serve as the setting and backdrop, respectively, for the Casa Grande Trap Club. But the precipitation did not halt completion of the Casa Grande III, the 14th stop on the Arizona State Trapshooting Association’s Winter Chain. Casa Grande Trap Club owners Don and his wife, Tiger, and Laurie Lyons hosted 230 shooters for the six-day event, which ended with blue skies and a thermometer reading of 60-degree that felt colder thanks to a stiff breeze out of the north.

Tucson, AZ; By Mark Constantine
1/18-24/2010 The Tucson Trap & Skeet Club’s 62nd annual Winter Chain concluded Sunday afternoon under sunny, but chilly skies for southern Arizona with the temperature in the mid-50s. A stiff breeze made it feel even colder and played havoc with the targets. But Dan Vogel of Ballentine, MT., didn’t seem to mind the conditions, shooting his way to the event’s High All-Around title. Vogel, a cattle rancher from eastern Montana, captured the crown in a shoot-off with Farmington New Mexico’s Mike Grady. But Grady didn’t leave for home empty-handed, winning the High Over All championship.

2010 Dixie Grand American
Odessa, FL; By Tom Schewe
1/11-17/2010 The record cold temperatures that have gripped the nation for the first part of 2010 made it all the way south to Tampa last week for the opening days of the 11th annual 2010 Dixie Grand. In conditions more typical to Wisconsin in November then Florida in January, a near record crowd of competitors battled the elements as well as the competition in what has become the “Kick Off” event for the trapshooting season. Besides the early morning cold in the beginning of the week, the weather played a role on the competition as breezy conditions prevailed throughout the week but at least by the end of the event the temperatures where more typical of what’s expected in Florida this time of the year. It spite of the frigid conditions, Club manager, Bill Miller and his capable crew had “The Dollar” in top shape and ready from the opening shot of the 11th annual 2010 Dixie Grand.
