Howlin' Coyote Chain

Phoenix, AZ By Mark Constantine
1/18-24/2010
The Arizona Winter Chain made a stop just north of Phoenix last week, setting up at the Ben Avery Clay Target Center. The Howlin’ Coyote Chain, which began Wednesday, Jan. 27, and concluded Sunday, Jan. 31, under bright, sunny skies and near-70-degree weather, drew 202 competitors. Dean Walker from Grand Rapids, MN, was the big winner, finishing first in both the High All-Around and High Overall.Walker, who follows
the Winter Chain along with his wife in their recreational vehicle, “moving from club to club,” added the double-title will make his stay this winter in Arizona, one to remember. Paul Doetsch, along with his wife, Donnie, ran the event. Clyde Thompson ran the computer program used to keep track of all the events and competitors. The Ben Avery Clay Target Center, which is set in the starkly beautiful Sonoran desert and includes picturesque mountain backdrops, is owned by the state of Arizona Game and Fish Commission and operated by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Doetsch, who began running the Howlin’ Coyote Chain three years ago, pointed out he couldn’t put on the event without the cooperation of Dan Twichell, who manages the facility. The Arizona Winter Chain moves on to Casa Grande Trap Club this week.
